Sounds to me like you fixed your own problem. No power out of the solenoid.
To check the solenoid do this. Make sure the wire from the key switch has power on it, its usually red or orange, when you turn the switch to START If you have power then see if there's power on both poles. If there's not then the solenoid is bad. If you DON'T have power to the red or orange wire leading to the solenoid, you have a safety switch problem. Remember if the little red/ orange wire has power on it, ALL SAFETY switches are working. Also I'm guessing that your PTO switch is disengaged, pushed in. |

i have put 2 different new solenoids on this. still nothing . i have 12v going into the solenoid and coming out the ignition side. but not the second large wire going to the starter. tested all all switches they seem to be working. but depress pedal light and pto light on. I hear a clicking not outta the solenoid but where the drive shaft comes out the back of the motor. haven't taken the medal off to see back there. is that where the diodes are. could that be bad?? help pleeeeeeeeeeeasseee... and also tried to jump solenoid from post to post and starter doesn't spin.

It sounds to me like you are having an issue with the brake or PTO switch. The solenoid will not engage when those lights are on. The clicking you are hearing is probably the fuel shut down solenoid turning on and off as it should. You wouldn’t hear a diode. I suggest that you PM Roland with the serial number and model of your tractor and ask him to send you a wiring diagram for your machine so that you can trouble shoot it.

If you jumped the solenoid and nothing happened then you probably have a starter issue. Either the starter is bad or the bendix is stuck.

I'm not sure about that, looking at the parts diagram on the Cub site it looks like the 1641 has a solenoid that is separate from the one on the engine. Looks like the first one has to engage at the same time as the engine solenoid. Gotta be one of those cheap fixes once you find out what the problem is unless the clicking he is hearing is the starter turning to turn over the engine and something is locked up.

Im guessing he was talking about the one on the tractor, not the one on the starter.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
