![]() Hey Fellas, My name is Tom. I came across OCC while searching for parts for my Dads 107. Boy, am I glad y'all are here! I grew up with this tractor and remember going with my Dad (Carl) to pick it up from a long gone IH Implement dealer near Birmingham, Ohio in 1971. (It was parked next to a new Lo-Boy, which I couldn't take my eyes off of. I still want one! ) He shelled out right around $1000 of hard earned 1971 cash, which has turned out to likely be the best "tool" investment he ever made. The 107 was always used primarily for mowing (originally a 42" deck, now a 38" since the 80s). However, I learned early on that the Hydro trans would pull the front wheels when jammed to Full at full throttle. Along with other juvenile abuse, this old Cub has cranked faithfully on with little repair or maintenance for 40+years. Dad was always the "deferred maintenance" type. He faithfully changed the engine oil and Hydro oil/filter, but that was about it until something actually broke. The engine was rebuilt in the late 80s but, reading through the forum here, it likely didn't need it. I'm thinking burned/carboned up valve. The Starter/Generator was a bi-yearly problem until a local rebuilder installed a bearing type rear housing sometime in the 70s. It hasn't been touched since. The front PTO has been rebuilt, at a guess, 6 times. The 107 was "replaced" some time in the mid/late 90s by a Craftsman lawn tractor for mowing duty (Cringe!) at home, and saw duty once a week easily mowing about 2 acres of residential lawns a few miles away. It came "home" in the mid 2000's and sat mostly unused til recently. Lately Dad has started using the Cub again, but has never mentioned why. Turns out, the C'man has become such a pile of...stuff... that it's almost unusable. (That thing should have been gone long ago, IMHO). The steering on the Cub is so loose that it's almost impossible to hold a straight line. That's why he replaced it "back when". He thought it would "cost too much" to fix the steering. ![]() I've got the 107 in the shop now for some much needed/deserved, long overdue love. A steering gear overhaul with upgrade, new joints in the linkage, new spindles and pitman arm, along with a carb rebuild and tune-up. Fathers Day was a while back, and Carls birthday isn't til December. We'll just call this an "I Love You, Dad" Day present. Tom Adkins Amherst, Ohio |

I'll get some pictures soon.Mick, The "Birmingham" that I mentioned is about 7 miles south of Vermilion in Erie County. The dealership was located just outside of town on Rt 113 Jim, I'm doing the work myself in my garage. If I can ever be of help, just holler. |

Sounds good Tom. (I live in Avon, but make trips to TSC in Amherst often and have to stop at MaMa Jos and Kriedowski's for treats all the time.)
I have a 129 which has a bit of loose steering, need to get a good look at it as see what seems to be causing the problem. |
