I've been fighting the steering on my 1872 for a year. I switched the steering cylinder from the 2072 over to it, It just a bit better. I sent the cylinder to Kelly for a rebuild.
Now it steers like a dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU KELLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() |

Did you see the pics of the muffler? The whole side blew out and the soot was so bad inside that Vince wrote his name on the side pannel! I traded Earl a set of wheel weights for that muffler he had on the trailer. Kelly You know me, Ill put it on the tractor, I dont care what color it is. Were you at the plow day when I painted Steves weight bracket pink and JD green? LMAO! |

You don't need no stinkin muffler, put a pair of 4" chrome stacks on it. Then you'll think your running a big tractor. ![]()

Sorry I can't provide pictures because I did the job at my work during my break times and cameras are frowned on. We must have top secret information here. Anyways chuck the cylinder up in a three jaw chuck in a good lathe and cut the weld off of the butt end of the cylinder and tap that end off. Push the shaft/piston out the end and replace the o-ring reinstall everything back in the cylinder body. Put the butt end back on and tack weld in a couple places to hold it. Make sure hydraulic ports are on the same line. Dont ask me how I know that. The first cylinder I rebuilt the hydraulic ports were 180 apart.
Pull the shaft all the way out to keep the new o-ring as far away from the heat as possible. I weld it in 4 segments cooling in a pail of water inbetween welds. It takes me all of about 25 minutes to do one from start to finish.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
