782d pto switch
Hello. I have a 782d that I am preparing to sell. I put the mower deck on today and the pto will not stay engaged. If I hold the switch up it stays engaged, once I let go it disengages. I am thinking switch but not sure. It doesn't look like an easy job getting the switch out so I thought I'd throw it out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Check all of your safety switches and make sure the are working properly I had this exact problem on my 782D I replaced the switch and the relay and still had the problem I got to checking safety switches and it ended up being the neutral safety switch that the foward/reverse lever operates the little metal tab broke off and was not working properly. I wish I would of checked that before I spent close to $100.00 for a switch and relay that I didnt need.

If I understand you correctly,
You are saying that the switch will not stay in the up /on position, it returns to the off position unless you hold it up/on. if so, it is the switch latch problem,replace the switch to correct the problem.

The culprit is most likely the RELAY. The PTO Switch is doing what it is suppose to do.
