Default Kohler regulator question.

I have tested my regulator on the 682. The test guide on the OCC site shows 13.7 volts max output but other test I see on the net say 14 to 15 volts max. My regulator is running 14.5 to 16.5 at WOT and almost pegging the gauge. Ive actually tried two different regulators with the same results. Occasionally the tractor will blow the 15 amp fuse in the dash. What is the true maximum and were do I start to solve the issue if 14.5 to 16.5 is to much volts?

The true maximum voltage is......13.7VDC.

I would suggest that you look at your grounding of the V/R. Take an VOM or DVM and see if there is zero ohms resistance between the V/R case and the battery negative terminal.

Roland its funny you say check the grounding. I was thinking the same thing so I added a ground wire from the regulator to the chassis and that fixed it. Im still charging 14 but not the 16.5s anymore. Seems grounding is a common issue with Cubs. Thanks for the reply.

Learned from my race car days to run the ground from the battery right to the block. On my cubs I run it to the starter mounting bolt. Houston we have ignition.

I told my dad on every Cub I get I had might as well, rebuild the carb, rewire the charging system,change all the fluids and fix all the flats. You would think Cub could have made them last more the 30-40 years with out these issues LOL. Just kidding! Actually Im making a list of must do checks and mods as soon as a Cub enters my garage and adding grounding wires is one of them. I am always amazed at how well built these things are.
