I happened to have the transaxle out when I welded mine in.
I made my own out of stainless steel. ![]() I cut them with a plasma torch. ![]() Just a little file work, a little angle grinder time and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ![]() |

I don't see why not, I'd tuck a wet rag down around the shaft to keep it cool and tack it on with a mig welder. I've seen cub dealers weld 1/4" key stock on both side's of the spring for a quick fix. Either way works, Key stock is inexpensive and any hardware or auto parts store carry's it. Just keep the shaft cool with a wet rag.

Not trying to be a wise apple or anything but how bad are your trunions worn to warrent a complete replacement of the square hole?
Although, I'm not sure I ever did one while in the tractor, I've repaired a number of them (that seemed pretty bad) and it usually only takes a little weld and a few minutes worth of file work and they are in good shape again. It seems like it would be more trouble to cut the old hole off than it is to weld and file it back again. Am I way off base about this?

Repair would have been far more work in my case. Replacement was quick and easy, plus it is now stainless steel!! It will never show any sign of wear again. |

Thanks, Wow, never would have guessed that they would/could wear that much without the springs and ends popping out.

I used some old pieces of key stock on both sides and 45% silver solder. I just used a wet rag down near the seal and have had no problems.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
