Default 1250 motor transplant

My friend has a 1250 that has a bad motor. I was going to try and help him out by donating my good running 1210 engine so he could make it run and drive. The 1210 engine is the 12hp magnum. I'm pretty sure that it would be a bolt in and go minus the wiring, but just to be sure, is there anything that would need to be changed over to make it work in a 1250? TIA

I don't have a 1210, but I think you are right. Some minor wiring changes and you should be good to go.

One should be able to remove the hot wire to the coil on the 1250 since the Magnum engine is electronic ignition?

I haven't studied the wiring diagram for this modification, but it's doable.

the pto clutch on the 1210 is for a 5/8in. belt and 1 1/8in. crank, the 1250 has 1/2in. belt and a 1in. crank.

Yes, but as far as the wiring for the PTO it should be the same idea, right?

Yes and if it's going to be a mower could to the mower deck pulley be swapped out for a 5/8 belt? I guess it depends on the deck.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. The deck pulley could easily be changed over.

you need to change the mule drive also to run the wider belt.

Another question: How hard would it be to adapt a 12hp Kohler engine in a 1250 with a cast iron oil pan base on it, similar to the 7hp pan style? Would the engine itself be too tall for the driveshaft? My cousin and I are pondering this as well as the 1210 motor, but I'm having second thoughts about parting the 1210 so we are looking at possible alternatives. I know anything is possible, I just wonder if it will be functional. Here is a picture of the oil pan I am talking about.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
