Default Cadet SLTX 1054 to move gravel.Comments?

We will be having another 2" of 3/4 Road Crush put on our 900' driveway this summer. The trucks will spread it to a degree but it still needs to be leveled somewhat and spread.

Was thinking of the "snow blade" on the front of the Cadet but am not sure whether or not the snow blade is heavy enough or the tractor will handle it.

Comments , suggestions??

Txs

I wouldn't. I think you would be better off renting a larger machine for the job. Just my 2 cents.

if you use it, just don't ram into anything too hard...the rear ends on the LTs aren't made for anything "ground engaging"

I have considerable experience working gravel drives. I maintain our lane and my drive, total close to a mile. I use my blue tractor with a 7 foot rear blade.

Once the gravel is spread, you aren't going to be able to do much with the front blade PUSHING it, (hard to control, digs in, etc) but you can drag it backwards to spread it out. Put some weight on the blade, and drive backwards. OR, drag an old chain link fence gate or metal bed spring with some weight on it, behind the tractor, to level the stone out. With a skilled driver, the spread stone should require little work that a few weeks of driving on it won't cure.

^^ You're right about that!! I too have a lot of experience with dirt/ rock work. I do use the front blade to move rock and dirt, but it is extremely hard to control. It's not like running a dozer, LOL!

+1

Dragging something or pulling the blade backwards is the way to go. Be careful as your tranny ain't made for ground engaging work.

Not to drag this off topic, but I've got a Wheelhorse tractor and a 50 inch mid mount grader blade. It is a pain in the buttox to put on, but really does a nice job with leveling gravel.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
