Default Crazy Ideas From The Competition!! (A GT-18) NSFP!

This post is Not Safe For (Cub Cadet) Purists!! Do not read if you are offended by other brands!!

OK, are the purists gone?

I traded for this tractor to get the tires. I have 0% interest in an Ariens, but, I just had to share some of the ideas and features of this machine, a GT-18.

Four good tires, good so far. the PO had SIX different people try to get it to start, nothing.

I unplugged the two wire connector going to the engine and it started right up! WOOT, a good MAG-18 Kohler!

The rear fender cowl is on a hinge.

Who will be the first one to put a flip cowl on a Super?

The tractor has a hydraulic lift that will lift at the front, middle and rear!

The valve is at the top of the pic.

The rear rock shaft is at the right. Heavy duty. You can also see the spring assist spring. The spring assist is chain adjustable.

Another pic of the rock shaft.

And on the back is

the mount for the CAT "0" hitch arms, the slotted hole to adjust the spring assist, and the fill/check ell for the hydro.

I will update if I find anything else that might incorporate into a Cub Cadet.

Hope you enjoy the pics, and ideas!!

I'd like to see what they did for the drive shaft at the pump when you get a chance.

It is a very good coupling. This old machine runs VERY smooth.

It is two aluminum blocks with a metal flex plate, I think.

I didn't look too hard at it, Maybe I will have to clean it to get a better pic.

More pics later!!

I think the aluminum blocks are split on one side, and clamps with a bolt to each of the shafts.

The rearend is a "Dana GT 120, automotive type ring and pinion".

It looks VERY heavy duty!

And it is VERY wide, 44" from outside of tire to outside of tire.

Very well built set up Cad. I have a chance to pick up a New Holland which is made by Ariens and has a 16hp one lunger Kohler in it. After seeing how well it is constructed that seals the deal going to pick it up next Saturday.

CAD,
Is that the hydro control lever on the right side? I like that! The Ransomes/ Jacobson mowers used the same rear end set up. It's geared lower. I have a Ransomes Bobcat with the 3 cyl mitz diesel it it. Have the hydro and axle out of it now because the hydro swash plate's control shaft sheared the roll pin in it. (can post pics if anyone wants to see it) Also, some goon welded the axle into the machine and now I have to do some good fab'n to get it back together right.

Question: You stated that the lift can lift front, mid, and rear. Are they separate? Or do they all 3 work at the same time?

It has a cool hydro control, yes on the right side. Notice the 3 (THREE!) slots.

One for forward, one for reverse, and one for a positive park!! It has a foot parking brake also, don't know why it is needed.

The left side has a "neutralizer" foot pedal, that pushes the hydro control to neutral.

The lift has a lever near the left footrest. Slide it forward, it operates the front and middle, slide it back, it operates the rear.

I haven't had it running long enough to try it out but once.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
