Default 23x10.50 vs 26x12

Is the added fluid capacity of the 26x12 tires worth the loss in surface pressure and overall gear reduction over the 23x10.50 tires?

I think I'd add weights (and fluid) to the 23 inch tires rather than go to the 26 inch tires, especially for ground engaging work. Not only will the 26 inch tires be a tight fit, you can't put chains on them like you can on the 23s (due to clearance issues) for pushing snow.

As you've stated, you will also lose mechanical advantage with the larger circumference tire.

I feel quite certain that IH did (at least) a little research before deciding what tire size would be most advantages' for torque, ground speed and traction in all around use before production ever started.

Although, I do have 2 pair of used 4 wheeler tires that I use as temporaries when I get a "new" tractor that has rear tires that won't hold air, they look pretty beefy, but I don't know how practical they are.

Selections where also smaller back then. 23x10.50 predates the cub cadet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
