So I started by 102 up for the season, took her for a spin, and noticed that the deck seemed to be getting 'hung up' for some reason. After some troubleshooting, I determined the PTO was 'slipping' and at times not even engaging.
Any advice or words of wisdom on what I can do to try and fix it? |

Could be stuck open and just needs a bump to release it, or the spring that closes the clutch is broken. or the release lever is not moving enough to allow the clutch to engage. Probably best to dis-assemble and check it out.

If you don't have any luck adjusting the lever, here is a video on how to remove the PTO clutch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUol4R9nYAw
Here is the exploded parts sheet http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=c...&dn=0011200014 There is a service kit (Cub Cadet 759-3490, $68) that can be ordered that contains a replacement disc, center spring and the 3 alignment springs. You probably will need a throwout bearing too. I'm currently fighting this same battle with my 104 and have it re-assembled, trying to get adjusted. See posts. Good luck. |

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and ordered the kit. Hopefully that takes care of it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
