Just brought this Super home today and immediately put it to work! It's a '97 2086 with 742 hours. The Kawasaki runs strong and it just mowed my hayfield(yard) with no effort. It's got some cosmetic issues and a few paint glitches but for what I paid, I think it's a good deal. Any ideas what it's worth?
It's got a couple things that need adjusted. The hydrostat speed creeps and the forward/reverse handle is way out of adjustment. The steering needs adjusted, it turns a lot tighter to the left. I think this can be easily corrected. The brakes are way out of adjustment. Someone removed the gauge wheels from the '48 GT deck. Maybe someone here can help locate the parts to put it back stock. All in all, I'm happy with my new Cub. Any advice on how to adjust the hydrostat would be appreciated. Here are some pictures for you to check out. |

No idea what it's worth without seeing up close but it had a list price in 97 of $7899.00 for just the tractor. Download the manual in the tech section. Think Xtreme has some wheel brackets that you may be able to use for the deck wheels.

Interesting! A 'dual spool' 2086 with just a 48GT deck? Well, the dealer would set up the buyer with whatever size deck he needed; could have been a gate or other fixed obstruction that dictated the small deck on the big tractor. Make sure you check into the timing gear issue on the Kawasaki, as it can wipe out the front of the engine if not tended to.
Also, please post some pics of the dual lift levers. We don't get to see that option on a cyclops very often here, and pics are worth a thousand words for reference. Check partstree.com for exploded views and part numbers for your tractor and deck. You can then use the part numbers to cross them on Google or with the parts vendors here on the site to get what you need. Welcome to OCC!

Here are pictures of the dash controls for the dual hydraulics on my 2086. Looks like the control valves are stackable.

I always wondered how that was set up. Pretty neat! Hey Ray - are these front hydraulics plug-and-play for a cyclops, or do you need to transfer the entire setup from the hydro pump forward? I still have the motor and front off the 2084...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
