Default 122 pto
I was mowing over the weekend with a 122 that hadn't been run or used for 3 yrs. or more. I got it started ok and was almost done mowing with it when the blade speed would slow to where it would almost stop. If I raised the deck it would come back up to speed, but then slow down agian while mowing. The grass wasn't high. I'm assuming the pto is wore out. The question is, is there adjustment on the clutches in them, or when the wear to that point is the only option a rebuild? Or, what else could be going on? I didn't look it over, may just be the belt is totaly worn out.

My 1650 was doing that to me, turns out the nuts on the J bolt on the mule drive were backing off... $.50 of nuts, lock/flat washers, cured that problem.

It could be a loose/worn/misadjusted belt, a sticking or stuck idler pulley, badly worn spindle bearings or any combination of.

It is also very possible that the center spring in the PTO has lost its ability to hold the rear plate tight against the disk and pulley. As far as I know the center springs can not be purchased separately.

Check the belts first, then go to PTO.

I have a 100 that set for 8 years with the PTO disengaged. The spring took a set and would not engage the PTO anymore. Had to replace the PTO spring. Now I always engage the PTO when it is parked.

That's also a good thing to do when you are running a Cub without an attachment that requires a belt.
