Help. 882 Diesel
Im still getting to know these Cub Cadets so forgive me if i have posted this in the wrong forum. I just purchased an 882 Diesel from a local farmer. It runs great. No smoke until you put it under a load which i think to be normal. Has 2210 hrs on it. No side panels and looks like a 20 yr old lawn tractor. I am just testing the waters to see what everyone out here thinks about these machines. It needs a new dash. Where can i find one? Anyone have any suggestions for things i should watch out for/keep an eye on? I cant seem to find a lot of info on these machines. It seems that the 782D is more popular. They seem to be the same machine to me except for the paint. Am I wrong about that? Could parts interchange between an 882 and a 782D? All help and comments are appreciated. I don't have a Cub Diesel, so I can't respond to performance issues
These are all the same tractor except for paint: 782D = 882 = 1512

They're good machines, and very cheap on fuel. Keep an eye on the driveshaft, as the diesels tend to eat them. I think the dash is NLA from Cub Cadet. You can get a decent used one from any 82 series hydro with hydraulic lift and drill the extra holes in the top for the gauge panel. It would be a good idea to change both fuel filters and clean the screen in the tank if you haven't already. If you are forced to use the new ultra-low sulfur diesel, make sure you are using some sort of lubricity additive so you don't destroy the injector pump. Keep the screen in front of the radiator clean, and DO NOT let it overheat. Diesels do not like to get hot. When the time comes to buy parts, I would recommend buying engine parts from a Kubota dealer, as they are much cheaper than through Cub Cadet. If you just bought it, replace the air filter (I would only use the OEM Kubota filter) and change the oil and filter. I use Shell Rotella T 15w-40 year-round in mine, and that's what I recommend. Do not use any oil that isn't approved for diesel engines.

I, too, have a 782D. It's a super machine... Like Roland said, it and the 882 are identical except for the paint and decals. The CCC made red 782D's were sold through the IH dealer network and the identical CCC made 882's were only sold through the CCC Cub Cadet dealer network. More 782D's were sold because there were many more IH dealers than the (then) new smaller CCC dealer network at the time.
Pay close attention to the advice Matt G provided. It's accurate and provides recommended procedures and products... Also, make sure you have complied with the CCC Service Bulletin (106, IIRC) requiring adding an additional ground cable from the battery to the engine block (Do not remove the original ground cable!) on all the 782D, 882, & 1512 Diesels. Well that info from each one of you was exactly what i was looking for. Thanks a lot for your help. I knew this was the place to go while asking questions.
