Mystery pulley question
I found this 48" mower and noticed it had an extra pulley attached, which leads me to this question; the 48" deck I bought with my 147 had a similar pulley in a similar spot I later removed because I felt it was unnecessary. Dad has had about 3 48" mowers on his 125 in the 28 years I've known about it and they've never had this pulley.
Any insight into what this pulley may be? I am thinking it is a PO mod. Maybe the belt was to long and he used another pulley to take up the slack instead of buying a shorter belt. It sure doesn't belong there. I used to have a deck like that and don't remember that pulley being there.

The pulley on the right (looking at picture) was a owner added item. I'm guessing the owner had belt slippage problems. With the extra pulley like it is there is more of the belt gripping the pulley(s)......reducing belt slippage.
This a only a guess. I do like his thinking.

I didn't think it was an IH pulley. I had one similar on my 48" deck and removed it. No issues. It was noisy and unnecessary. Thanks for the replies.
