Default Qa42A thrower on a 782

I thought I would try to put the QA 42A on the 782 that came with it.
Well it looks like it was never installed on it.
so I have a few questions:
The first thing I noticed is it needs a 5/8" pulley instead of 1/2" --no problem
Second thing is the upper parallel arms need a slight curve to allow the thrower to go all the way up.
They presently hit on the frame where it spreads out in front.
Does anyone have a pix of the curved arms so I know approx how much curve to add? and the center to center of the pin holes on the arms as they should be a tad longer once the curve is added so as to allow clearance for the chute control.
I looked in the archives, as well as the owners manual and
Also CC parts online, but they show only straight arms.
the belt is 78056-C1 does anyone know the cross referance- 5/8"x long??
Thanks,
ol'George

I'm pretty sure it's 5/8" x 35. You might be able to get a 34" on. Make sure you get a power belt. I haven't been real impressed with the Gates green belts, or the OEM ones, either. I'm going to try this Gates Industrial belt I found, and if that doesn't work, I'm ordering a couple Stens True-Blue, belts, which are supposed to be good.

Default Belt,

Thanks matt
for the 35" belt info, that gets me in the ball park.
I have to see what I have laying around for a pulley.
I couldn't agree more on good belts, I use the Goodyear insta power belt for the deck, you can't beat them.
I have used "will fits" from tractor supply, Hwd stores, lawn shops,
and you might as well use a rope!
oh they are fine for a furnace blower or fractional horsepower application, but not extreme usage like Lawn/garden.
Factory belts like C.C. or J.D. get the job done too,
but sometimes a fellow has a modification that does not have a factory specked belt available.
The goodyear insta power has lasted 1-1/2 years so far.
They are about the same price or a little less than factory Cc belts.
I hope someone can answer my other questions on the curved arms.
Geo.

I'm sure you know this, but do not use anything other than a cast-iron pulley. I think the OEM one is 4.5" in diameter, and the Browning pulley I bought is 4.25", so I'm having some problems with the OEM belts being slightly too long to get tight enough. I have 2 throwers with the curved arms on them, so I can take some measurements if no one else has them.

Default pulleys

Thanks matt,
If I don't have something close, I'll make one.
I get my belts (and most everything)from Applied Industrial tech. (the old Detroit ball Bearing)

Default upper arms

Thank you,
for the picture
it is more curved than I would of thought!
I'm thinking I need to "stretch" it a bit also, to compensate for the curve,
Would the CL-CL of the holes be available?
but I guess as long as the blower remains parallel, up/down it will be just fine
Thanks so much,
Geo.

The center-to-center dimension will be the same for both the straight and the curved links; otherwise, the thrower would not stay in the proper orientation with the ground. I don't think you'll be able to just bend yours, as you'd have to add material to make up the extra length.

Duh,
I just hate it when I try to make things more complicated than they are.
of course the holes should remain the same length!!
The arms just need to be put in a metal stretcher after bending.
it works like a money stretcher,-- when you are short,
just stretch things a bit ( thus rubber checks)
also works for sawing off a board that is already too short.
use a Wood stretcher.
but you have to "water" the material real good, so it can grow.
ok,
enough humor,
Thank you for all the help!:biggrin2.gif:

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
