Default Governer

Got the 1250 running. Every time I try to rev the engine it dies. Carbs been cleaned and partially adjusted.

Disconnected the governer linkage. Idled up using the carb bracket, engine dies. With idling I moved governer linkage and no change.

I'm thinking the governer needs looking at.

Yes - No??

Adjust your carb per the manual those setting should let it run then fine tune it from there. I highly doubt your Governor is the problem.

Yep, definetly not the governor. Could be fuel or timing. My bet is on fuel.

Okay - http://www.onlycubcadets.net/pdf/QL%20Op%20Manual.pdf

I've set the 'high speed adjustment' screw at 2 turns and the 'idle adjustment' screw at 2 & 1/2.

No change

I've also noticed that it will ONLY run with the choke about 90% on.

Ideas??

2 turns isn't far enough out. they say 2.5, but that's just a preset. you have to adjust it from there. I've noticed its usually closer to 3 turns. but it depends on the engine. that's why its just a starting place

Far as I know, which isn't much, it has been sitting. We did clean the carb and it wasn't bad.

I'll try 3 turns on the screws.

I did back the throttle set screw off. No change

Using my hand as a choke it comes away wet??

Yup, flushed out the tank and put on a new fuel line. The lid one was to short/fat and interfered with the throttle linkage.

At 3 turns it seemed to do marginally better, but after burning myself on the muffler box I'm still stumped as to why the choke needs to be on???

Going to look for sympathy from the wife.... lol

Oh yeah! The carb gurgles after it dies.... Strange stuff

if the choke has to be on you're not getting gas. something is partially plugged , kinked or dirty restricting the fuel flow to the carb or in the carb.

Sorry no sympathy for burns. man up or put a skirt on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
