Hello All, I've read a number of threads on the 450 vs 451 snowblowers and still question if I can run a either a 450 or 451 on my 2082. I've got the 6" pto and wonder if the 450 would over rev with that setup. Is there anyway to determine which one they are if there's no tags on it. I've got a chance to purchase either at this point and would appreciate you input. Thanks!!

As far as I know, all the 450's were white, and the 451's were yellow. I may be wrong about that, if so, I will stand corrected.
If no other way, you can tell by the ratio. The difference is in the gearboxes. The 450's ratio input to output is 1-.54 (1.56-1). The 451's ratio is 1-.39 (2.59-1) so you can just spin the input, and check blower rotations. If you put the 450 on your tractor, at 3600 RPM (WOT) you will overspeed the gearbox by about 400 RPM. Your choice. If it were me, and you have both available, I would go with the 451. But, you could run the other, just either: Don't run WOT. Or, be prepared for the gearbox to fail. If it was just 100 RPM, you'd probably be fine. But your looking at a 33% increase in speed at WOT. That's quite a bit for that gearbox. Hope this helps! ![]() |

just for info they made white and yellow 450 and 451 blowers as I had both ways and stick with 451 or 551 blowers for the 6in clutch you will destroy the gear box if you dont

Thanks for the info, I thought the 450 would be pushed to its limits with the larger clutch, was looking to see if anyone had any experience with this setup. I have run across a couple of white 451 models as well so checking the ratio would be a good idea. Thanks Again!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
