Default Cub Cadet, hydro power down pressure ?

The lift cylinder for the deck also powers the front blade. The blade does not have and power down. I took the cover off and found the lift arm just hits the bracket when going up, then rotates free when going down. It looks like their is a spot to put a bolt through with a nut welded to the lift arm to lock it.

Just wondering if that,s what it,s for.

YUP, I guess you can say, the hydro system, by default, is "free float". IF....you want down pressure, you will have to install the "locking pin".

That's what I thought, is it just a single bolt with a collar on it? Do you have any pictures of it? Thanks for the info

You need to be careful when putting the lock pin in I have seen this bend what is # 2 in the diagram. It is not very easy to get out and straighten. I have also seen the roll pins snap and this is also not a quick fix.

I had the same idea you have on my dual stick 1650 when I got the push blade. I think I asked the same question you're asking, I also got the same advise about being careful or I may break or bend something.
But being the thick headed person I am I went ahead and locked it in for down pressure. Worked great for a little while till I snapped the spirol pin. It is a bugger to change.
Lesson learned
So coming from someone who's been there, done that, be carful while applying down pressure.

I just finally found the manual. I think the lift bar for the rear 3 pt attaches hear, but you also have the option to have power down on front attachments when the bolt is in . I went out and put a bolt in to lock it and the lift bar for the front blade bows out when powering down. I think that's the part that will fail/flex before a roll pin brakes.

Think again. Spirol pin is a pita to change, your tractor, your fix.

Yep one of the most fun jobs on a Cub is changing the spirol pins in the rock shaft. you get to use lot's of cool tools like a cutting torch, BIG hammers and you also get you use a lot of great 4 letter words. Let us know how that works out for you.

I used a bolt to "Power down" when using my Johnny bucket but I realized that the little pin on the rock shaft was where all the stress is and not the grade "8" bolt I used. All I can say is that if you really want to have a reliable power down system you would need to weld the arm to the shaft.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
