Default To spindle or not to spindle

I'm pretty sure my spindles are shot or at the very least my bearing and seals are.
How do I determine if I should replace the whole spindle (two total) or just rebuild?
And how do I loosen the blade nut, spindle bolts, and spindle rod nut??

Need more info before we can answer. Like the model number of the deck and a few pics would help.

Just looked at it on Cub's parts site. Looks like you need to take an impact wrench to the nut that holds the blade on. Then the spindle shaft should come out from the top. They don't show the bearings as being replaceable. Once you get it apart you may be able to get them out of the housing and match them up. Probably cheaper than replacing the complete assembly as Cub wants you to do.

This is the drawing from the Cub site with the other parts for the deck deleted. When you look for the part try Cub Cadet (whatever part number) on Google. You should be able to find it for less than Cub.

Default Grease?

Any benefit to using any particular grease? I also have a boat that uses marine grease for the axles, does it matter if I use that on the spindles or something cheaper?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
