My gen set is a recoil start with an aluminum block. When it is really cold, it is very hard to start. If I could keep the oil warm, it would be much better. Now I use starting fluid, and 10w30 oil, but it would be better if I had some type of block heater. Magnetic heaters won't stick close enough to the block to transfer enough heat. Any suggestions?

Is it inside? Or outside? If outside, you could put a tarp over it with a heat lamp on it. If inside a garage, just the heat lamp and no tarp.

It is outside under a tarp. Probably not enough room for a heat lamp. The oil fill is only about 2 inches deep. Maybe the heater with adhesive would work. Thanks for the advice!

Kat's makes immersion/bayonet screw in heaters you could install into a NPT oil drain hole too. They advise 10 watts per quart sizing.
You might also be able to use a wrap around battery blanket (12V) or a stick on battery heater also. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
