I was at Home Depot yesterday and they had one of the new Cubs in the aisle with a large black snowblower attached to it. The sign on the blower read $1399.00. I looked it over and started to bang on it with my fist and was shocked to see that it was mostly tin. It also looked to be assembled wrong....I couldn't get the lift handle to work at all. After seeing that I really appreciate my QA36 and the hydraulics on my 1650. She aint pretty but she's tough as heck.

Last time I looked there were less than 12 rubber and plastic parts on my 800, including tires and belts.
![]() Doesn't MTD make a white or yellow thrower to match the Cadets they make? Almost sounds like home despot put some 3rd party thrower on the Cub. ![]() ![]()

Bluesman,
I hope you did not mention vintage CC's to any potential buyers in Home Depot. |

I may be way off but it seems like the Home Cheapo Cubs are good for about 3 years. So at that rate you would have to buy about 16 of them to last as long as my O has up till now. Problem with this calculation is that my O runs as good as new even being 50 years old. I'm pretty sure the O will out live me. They don't build them like they used to couldn't be more true.

Nope, just stood there taking in all that plastic and tin. And yes, Jonathon, I was thinking that $1300 bux would buy a LOT of older Cub steel and iron.

Maybe the recent high prices on vintage CC stuff is being pushed there by customers that are doing some research before they buy new stuff.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
