Default Rear end gears
Ok so there is no gear swapping in the transmission to make the tractor go faster backwards.

So can gears be changed in the rear ends to make the tractor go faster?

seems there has to be some way of altering gear ratios. I just have not been in these long enough to know how. Yet

or is the only way higher RPM.

Maybe just need to find a 10K RPM motor a shove in one to see what happens.

Try Midwest Super Cub they offer different gear sets for pulling. Maybe they can help you out. Why do you need more top speed out of the tractor? They move along pretty good in top gear as it is.

you can install a one tooth faster input gear in the transmission,it would increase speed in all gears.

Or an overdrive.(reduction gear set) It will speed up all gears in trans. Depending on which set, 2,3,4,5 teeth. 10% to 38% overdrive. Mike

Oh I have one I want to make faster, it doesn't have any other use than pull a wagon. so I want to make a speed machine. would like to built a really fast one some day to drive around town since we can drive atv and off road machines on the road here in this state.

45 mile an hour cub cadet tractor I would ride it work, lol

I guess if I was you I would find a peerless rearend that came out of a Cub quite line machine and use that. Then you have the option of swapping pulleys around to get the speed you want. You will still have Cub parts in it.

I am not positive about CC's, but in a manual auto trans the Reverse is accomplished by a idler gear sliding into place to create a change in direction between a cluster shaft gear and the gear on outside of the syncro/ gear brake hub sleeve .which makes it a large gear thus it turns slower but gives more torque
it has to be similar design to get a reverse direction
to change the R gears would take a major design change in 2-3 gears
this slower, more torque gear is useful to extricate a half stuck tractor many times

At 45 mph, I believe that you would have a hard time keeping a Cub Cade between the ditches on an interstate highway... 45 mph on an average 2 lane highway/country road/city street, too scary for me.

Headlines:

South Dakota man dies in rollover accident when his IH Cub Cadet left the highway at speeds exceeding 50 mph. Police are still unsure how the tractor was able to reach speed in excess of 50 MPH but were heard saying that sure would make mowing the yard get done faster.
