Attempting to attach a file here.
Its been too long, I cant tell if this is a valve or something more serious. Anyone care to take a guess: Ok, never mind - can anyone tell me how to upload an audio file without needing a movie making file and/or youtube? (seems I can only upload image files here??) Or just pm me and I will email it (would be better though to share with the larger community) |

Ok, try this now. Ignore the picture its of a 1650. The audio is my 782. Not sure if anyone can tell much from listening this way - a ticking or knocking that seems to reduce when the RPM's increase.
I stood in front of the muffler with the iphone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I4Y...ature=youtu.be |

Kinda hard to tell from the audio, but I think it sounds like either a blown head gasket or an exhaust leak. I'd pull the hoods and shrouds and check it all out. I really think it's a head gasket.

Pulling the heads would likely learn something one way or the other... could inspect a few items that way

Before you pull every thing off the engine. Do a compression test. You should be able to locate which head gasket leaks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
