Hi I am new to this forum and need some advice. I have a 1772 that I bought used in 1994 for $3500. When I bought it I noticed that the rear end bolts had cracked the aluminum where they go into the frame. At the time I just used a welder and some angle iron and modified it to work. Now I have a leak in the rear diff and am contemplating whether I need to just fix the leak or find a whole new housing. I also wonder if it is difficult to set up ring and pinion in these. I have rebuilt a jeep rear end before.

Find a new housing. It seems you usually can't pay people to take them. I have never set a ring and pinion in one of these, but if you've done one in a car, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks for the replies, any suggestions for a source for housing. These Cubs are scarce around here the guy I bought mine from brought it from Iowa when he moved here. I haven't seen many cub bone yards.

I believe a bare housing is currently listed on eBay. You also might want to try Ray Weaver or one of the sponsors of this site. Setting bearing preload and adjusting contact pattern should be a snap if you've done it on other vehicles.

I do think the 1772 is a super. They use a different housing then the non supers (1211-1811-1810-etc). They are harder to find, and usually pretty expencive.
I would try PATTON ACRES, he has allot of super cub parts.

The aluminum housings are the same, regardless of whether or not it's a super.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
