Default First Cub (tractor for that matter) and already hooked!

Hey guys,

I'm located in Foxboro, MA home of the New England Patriots...

Bought a 149 Hydrostatic off of the son of a farmer (who recently walked off into the "Field of Dreams" corn field) who had a plethora of old cubs. Got it for 4 hundy.

Have since bought a battery, replaced the dry rotted front tires (did a quicky sanding job and spray painted the rims), plan on doing a lot of neglected maintenance to it. When i went to look at it, it was sitting in a field in RI stuck in the snow - so there's a good amount of work.

It runs, is a little loud (thinking a muffler might be needed for this fix)

Has a plow on it and an attached (welded in) weightbox in the back.

Have used it once so far to plow and works great.

Hopefully will post a series of pics showing my progress of purtying up this beast.

Was wondering if there is an easy local place to walk in and buy headlights for it? I'm a bit impatient and don't like waiting for parts to ship to me or the local small engine repair shops.

Thanks!

Patriot, you'll never find a better starting point to enter the Cub Clan (or Cult, as a friend of mine calls it) than with the 149. May I take it for granted that it has the hydraulic lift? You're right, they're beasts. They'll be nice, they'll frusterate, they'll make you proud, they'll thin out your wallet, they'll make you want another one - or more. Problems can be solved with the click of a mouse, but a service manual should be a requirement, and they're readily available, even if reprinted. Welcome to the group!

Hey Patriot, Welcome! I've got a 149, now a 129, and looking at a 1450. My 149 is superb! Plows snow like a champ, with chains, and weights. Why did I wait so long to buy one? I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I do.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
