Default 1810 Hydro problem

I just restored a 1810 and converted it to a 1811 (added hydraulic lift).

After driving it for the first time after the project was done, it drove perfect for about 10 minuets or so, then it started to "lurch" forward when starting from a dead stop and the same for reverse, instead of "easing" into forward movement or easing into reverse movement.

Could this be from adding hydraulic lift and not bleeding air out of the system? because I did not !...I do have one hydro relief valve leaking, but I don't think that could be causing this problem, or am I wrong ?

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated

PS...I also changed the hydro fluid and filter.

Did you change the relief valve in the hydro?

It's not air. They system will self bleed once primed. Either a linkage issue, or perhaps the valve. Could be an oil issue, as in wrong filter, old filter gasket that stayed stuck to the housing, low oil, wrong oil....... Dig a little more, not much info to work with yet.

The Trunion and linkages look good...I did not change the relief valve, should I have ?....I will have to re-check the oil that I put in it, however, the oil that I put in was suggested for hydro transmissions. the filter is a Purolator that I cross reference from the filter that was on it.

I also need to mention that I forgot to in the original post, is that when I "hold" the hydraulic lift lever in the down position or the lift position it will drive fine (no lurching).

The only thing's I did was add hydraulic lift, change hydro oil, and hydro filter.....before I did these things the tractor drove fine.

Sounds like the charge circuit is low on pressure. I suggest since it wasn't that way before, to put either a Wix #51410 or a CCC 923-3014 on it. I don't know what fluid you used, but IH Hy-Tran, or any tractor hydraulic trans fluid, ATF, or even straight 30wt oil should have been fine. Start with the filter. If it still is giving you fits, check the pressure on the charge pump. Did you take the hydro or charge pump apart?

He added a hydraulic lift to this tractor from the original armstrong lift. IIRC, I was thinking the relief needed to be adjusted or changed. If you go to Parts Tree and look up an 1810 & 1811 the relief valves have different numbers. The 1810 uses a SU-9510385-0006 and the 1811 uses a part that ends in -0003. I think I remember reading about this a few years ago but I may be wrong.

Todd,
You might be right. Kinda like the manual lift 169's needing the field change over kits to add hydraulic lift.

Maybe I could take a relief valve out of my 782 to see if that will change anything....Does it make a difference which one I swap, or should I swap both of them ?

J-mech, can you tell me if a new loader with no oil in the rams or lines needs to be bled or will the operating of the levers back and forth get the air out?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
