Default 1872 needs a fuel pump

I was just mowing my yard with 1872 and it started losing power like it was running out of gas. There is no gas in the clear filter so I am thinking it is the pump. Does anyone have a good source for a Kohler pump? I just looked it on Cub Cadet's parts look up and it is still available for 94.00 plus shipping.

No gas in the filter ............... did you pull the line off and see if the tank outlet was plugged? That system will gravity feed. Also, usually when the pump fails it dumps fuel into the crankcase. I'm not convinced it's the pump.

It is too hot to look at now. After I get finished mowing I will look at it. Yes you are right it will gravity feed. I will take the line off the tank and see if I have fuel. Thanks for help Jonathan.

The crankcase is not full of fuel. My 1863 would not start so I am going to work on it before the 1872.

My 1872 had gas in the crankcase so I'm using gravity for awhile to see if its the pump or carb. Easy enough just splice the fuel line with a shutoff valve around the pump. Working so far but can't let fuel tank get low.

I just bought a low pressure electronic fuel pump for $25 I'm planing to install on my 2072. I read about it and its supposed to work good, haven't tried it myself yet though.

i went out and check it again. The fuel filter now has fuel in it. I am going to replace the fuel pump just to be safe. It may or may not have ever been replaced. I started it in the shop and it started. I did not let it run long cause it is so late. I guess that the PO was having trouble with it is why he sold it. He has put a lot of money in it and he might of got tired of putting money into it. Oh well it can be fixed.

you may want to check the shut off valve on the bottom of the tank. the valve narrows down inside and can trap junk in it. ive had this happen to lots of small engines at work. the guys are careless when putting gas in the tanks. there always getting jammed up with junk.

I pulled the carb, drained the tank. The bowl had green stuff growing in it. It is running great now, even on this 90+ day.
