Default Clearer service manual for k series

Just wondering if there is a copy of the service manual that has better quality pictures in it. All the ones I've found are pretty hard to figure out what is being shown. I'd be happy to buy one if I didn't think it would just be the same PDF printed and shipped to my house for $20.

Even an original hard copy's pictures are grainy. Just didn't transfer pics well back then. Do you have a specific question? Maybe someone can take a pic for you.

No questions yet but thank you
After reading many of the threads here on OCC and other sites it seems that all the vets in this small engine world really recommend reading this manual from front to back before opening up an engine. Kind of makes sense to me as well to be honest. Why jump into something like this completely blind if you don't really have to Since I'm so new to this it would just be nice to have clearer pics so I can better understand what they are talking about. Plus, with respect to everyone taking their time to help me, I'd like to at least do my part first and read/understand this manual before posting a bunch (and trust me there will be a bunch HAHAHA) of threads on my first overhaul. I'm hoping to do this with my uncle by my side but it has been extremely hard to get our schedules to match. He is an ace at this and would be the kind of guy to have help but we will see.

I actually looked there first and could not find it. Could you please offer up a link for me? I can also contact them but if you already know where it is that would be great! I would always rather support our locals

OK, my bad. I was thinking Cub Cadet Manuals.

Seems you are looking for the Kohler TP-2379 K Series Service Manual.

Perhaps you can contact Kohler and see if they will send (or sell) you a paper edition.

I agree the downloaded manual's pictures leave things a little to the imagination, not a good thing (except, perhaps, with lingerie). I've been confused more than once, trying to see in the pictures the things described in the text. However, rereading the instructions and referring to the engine itself, usually cleared things up.

Don't be afraid to attempt a rebuild. I was hesitant at first (sent the first one off to the Case/IH dealer to rebuild--they messed it up and it lasted less than 10 hours before I had to pull it and take it back to them for a second attempt). After that fiasco, I was determined to do it myself. Rebuilt two after that. Dealer cost was $800 and change. The ones I did myself were about $300 including parts and machine shop work.

The best way to learn is to just jump in. If you get stuck, take pictures and ask a question here. That's how I learned. The guys on here are the best.

Well I ended up buying one from ebay that (for the best of my knowledge) look new and should have some cleaner pics.

Since the workspace is rather tight in my garage I've been putting together a nice little rolling engine workbench so I can get started. I have a 10hp Kohler sitting in the garage the will be my first test case HAHAHA

I give you a lot of credit familiarizing yourself with your opponent before beginning the task at hand. When I started I didn't have anything to look back on except a bunch of pictures of the tare down, to at least get everything back where it belonged.
But seriously a service manual helps out immensely with torque specs, tolerance's to name just a few. I don't think you will need to read it from front to back though, but eventually you'll end up going through every page.
Good luck

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
