Default 1050 info

I just cant find any info on the 1050 made in 1989(I think). Thinking about buying my brothers which he bought new. It has sat for about 3-4 years since he bought his new hydro Cub. The thing is almost like new. Any body able to steer me in a direction? I think Cub Crazy told me there weren't many made?

As far at MTD Cubs go, that's a rare one. One year of production. They are a good tractor, overall. I had one, and got rid of it (not because I didn't like it, mind you). It's got a 10hp Kohler Mag single cylinder engine in it, 3 forward, 1 reverse speed trans, and not really any options. It's manual lift, doesn't have an amp gauge, but can be fitted with a rear lift, it does have head lights, and the 4 gallon tank on it will last you eons! If it's in good shape, runs, and can be had for a good price, I'd go for it!

With mine, it was the star of the show once a year; winter. I'd throw a 54" blade on it, loaded and chained rears plus a set of weights, and walk through whatever mother nature had in for us (that's saying a lot considering this last winter). I know J-Mech and a few others here have them, but you don't see many pics of them.

For mowing, they are alright. I've heard 1st gear is too slow while 2nd is too fast, if you don't have good grass and a smooooooth yard. I wouldn't put a snow thrower on it, 10hp and a manual trans without a creeper option won't do too much good.

Any specific questions you have, feel free to ask; we're all here to help, and good luck!

Edit: A couple pics if you'd like

Thanks for the reply.
My bro bought it new and it looks near new with very minor marks. Carb is gonna need work as had old gas left in. I want to put my polished aluminum wheels and tires on something that looks good and my others aren't ready to look that good yet! They still work for a living.

Ryan, that second pic with the guy opening the screen door....hahaha His expression is either "why is he taking a pic of lawnmowers" or "why is he taking a pic of me walking into the house".

haha yeah, he'll share a few more of those expressions before he realizes that the 2 sitting in my yard isn't just cool, it's an addiction!

Edit: I didn't realize how old that pic was when I posted it, but that right there is the first 2 Cubs I ever owned at the place we lived in prior to buying the house we're at now. The shed there could only hold 1 Cub, so needless to say, when we moved, I had I think 3 more Cubs sitting outside, all covered in there own tarps. Every time I knew it would rain, it was like a ritual covering every Cub up and making sure the tarps didn't blow away. It was like I was tucking in my kids or something. Heck, I'd even peek out the back window during a storm to make sure the tarps didn't blow off or anything; is that bad?!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
