Drove her in the garage first thing this morning, and a nice trail of hytrans. First thing I did was pull the M18 out to replace some gaskets and the two crank seals. Did some cleaning on the charge pump and that's where it's leaking. The pump input shaft seal, and pretty bad . Go figure, it's no longer available. Anyone have an idea if it can be cross refferanced ? Can't see any numbers on the seal. Am I out a luck on this one?

Yep, what Sam said + NAPA #6204 or National #471466. How is the rear coupling and driveline looking? You may also want to check both ball bushings if you have not done that yet. Good luck...we need pics too.

I got the part # off parts tree and they show as available. Called the local Cub dealer and they said it's no longer available through MTD? Have not had a chance yet to look over anything else, but all seems to work as it should. Just the leaking seal. I didn't run her much because the leak. As it is really bad. Hoping the shaft bearing is good. There is play in the coupler at the spring pin, so can't tell yet if there is play on the shaft itself. Have not looked and this is just a thought, if I find a 2185 and do the CH 18 swap.on the 1862, would the driveshaft from the 1862 work on the 1811 without modifying it?

If the input seal is leaking that bad, I'd be checking the shaft. |

The CH18 will go on the 1862. So after more cleaning looks like the seal at the shift shaft is also leaking a little as is other end of the input shaft. So I've pulled whole rearend out. Could not get the drain plug out, so I took off the rear cover to drain out the fluid. Fluid is really dark brown and smells a little burnt. I've smelled worse. At the very bottom of the carrier housing, there is a gel like substance. No grit in it just a gel. I think this Cub has sat for some time and all the seals have dried out. I think the PO got it runnig mowed a few times and seals started leaking on him. I couldn't tell til I got the rear coupling off that it's a smooth shaft and not splined. There was I'd say close to a roll of Teflon tape wrapped around the shaft between the coupling and the input shaft seal. It has 1057 hrs on the meter. Some pics of where I'm at so far.

Some pics of the M18 after I pulled it out and all the tin. The reason the PO said there are no side panels, the po before him pulled them off to "to cool the engine better" and lost them. So far all tthese pics are from my cellphone, so sorry they're not to good. There was so much crud, I couldn't tell there was a coil. Just a mound of crud.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
