I acquired my 3184 a week ago in a deal with my land lord. And I love it.. so much so that I'm looking at another CC, a 2140 AGS.
The owner says that it's been sitting for two years, but the motor was ran last fall for an unknown reason. They say the tires are holding air, and it rolls like it should in neutral. They replaced the deck belt and a spindle two years ago. lastly they say their an issue with the PTO not wanting to engage all the time. $75 obo What do ya'll think? Lets assume they worked the pedal clutch like you are supposed to and the clutch plates aren't fried. And lets assume the Onan 14hp fires up and actually runs (or at least will after a cleaning).. would this tractor be a good repair and resell option? And if so.. what would ya'll estimate it's worth at? Thanks! |

You could get lucky and drop a little in it and make a few bucks. You just joined so I don't know how good you are at fixing things......
Personally, I wouldn't buy one of those models for either my use, or to flip. Tranny's have proven to be junk. Motor's are pretty good.... it'd make a good transplant for one that needs a motor. For that price, I'd buy it and part it out before I fixed it and sold it. Just my ![]() |

For $75.00 I'd take a chance on it. If you can get it working it may be worth $200.00-$300.00

Thanks guys. One of my thoughts was the motor should be worth that easy.
So the trannys are usually crap? Or with the normal confusion between it and hydros are they usually broken? |

People too often think they are Hydro's and they slip the clutch's. If you buy it easy way to test after you get it running is to see if it slips in 6th gear while trying to go up a steep hill with the pedal pushed all the way down. If it slips then plan on parting it if not you have a good one. There was a thread on MTF a couple years ago about shimming the clutch packs.

I'm planning on taking a battery, cables, gas and my air tank when i pick it up to see if it's crank and drive able before loading it into the back of the truck.

My neighbor has a 2130ags its a pretty decent mowing tractor and hasn't had any trans issues so far but it seems like something is always happening to the engine. Now I can't blame the engine problems on Kohler because before I started working on it I don't believe it was properly maintained, it took an hour just to get the oil filter off it because I think it was the original and it was on there good. When the tractor is running its a nice machine and when its not it usually cost a pretty penny to repair but for $75 I wouldn't walk away from it.

I'm sure we've all spent $75 on a dinner before. I agree, just go load it up, bring it home and see what you have. Very little down side to a tractor costing $75. Check out some of the prices for parts on Ebay or any other source for that matter. Good luck.

Your absolutely right. The owner checked.. said the tires are holding air, and it rolls good in neutral. I requested additional pics and she said her husband would see if it starts this evening. Fingers crossed.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
