782 Steering Column movement
Hi everyone. Could use some advice. I was backing my 782 and trailer into the barn with a load of wood and I was doing the normal back and forth adjustment when backing a short trailer. As I turned around to get a better look at what I was doing I felt the steering wheel move away from me. As it turns out, I can push or pull on the wheel and the entire steering column moves about an inch or so front to back. Is there a collar or bracket or something down below that might have worn out? I have to work on the steering anyway because I have a real sloppy left side ball joint so why not get it all tightened up. Any thoughts?

Pretty sure the 782 is set up like the rest of the Cubs , the only things holding it in is two on the bottom of the column and the rubber grommet on the top.
Check the two bolts on the bottom , they may be loose. Almost all of the tractors i brought home the bolts have been loose. As far as the top , a new grommet will help some , but i have welded a piece of angle onto the metal dashstand and put a clamp on the tube.

there is a small clamp type thing rite under the instrument panel that might have come loose also there is a plastic bushing rite under steering wheel in the tube
