Default A little push blade trouble

While using the blade on the 1450 to push some small limbs and needles from some pine trees, I ran into a small problem. I did some pushing and when I lifted the blade and backed up the blade dropped. This is what I found(see pics). The pivot pin dropped out. It looks like it was originally welded in, is that correct? Also the lower gusset is only welded on one side, should that be welded to both sides? I think that is the reason that the metal is tearing just behind the gusset on the welded side. Thanks for any info, cjet69.

Yep, you need to do a little welding or have it welded. You should have a nut on the bottom of that pivot rod and it should be welded at the top and it should be welded on both sides at the bottom as you mentioned. Yours was probably built late Friday afternoon.

Pulled it down, welded it up, and put it back to work. I'll clean it up and paint it sometime later on. It works better and feels more solid than ever. Got most of my clean up project done after the repair.

Looks good. There can be a lot of impact on that pin when the blade trips and slams back into it. I had to get mine welded up last summer.

Nice job repairing it! Nothing like a bunch of great machines hard at work!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
