The hydro fluid on this was overdue for changing, so yesterday it got the service. Definitely was worth doing.
I had different gallon bottles of hydro fluid, and going onto the second gallon the color was different than the first that went in. The first was a red tint/color to it. The second was more clear, and brownish. Otherwise the bottles looked the same. I am assuming there are different versions - does anyone know the differences and more importantly the implication of mixing the two (ended up being about 2/3 brown version and 1/3 red version). Then was pulling some pretty big logs yesterday - 2ft diameter pine segments through rocky wooded terrain. The chain was just hooked on the regular hitch but I can say Im not going to be very delighted if I break the hitch (bolted into the aluminum housing) - it was taking some pretty good jolts. Would like to hear your opinions on a) likelihood of busting the hitch plate off (likely stronger than I think) or b) an aftermarket plate that bolts to the frame? (xtreme or a cyclops part?) or c) swap out the rear and put in a cast iron one (which I have an extra lying right beside the tractor). Course even with CI, a and b still apply... |

(B) Someone previously mixed something else and you had a "cocktail".

The brown colored stuff was brand new purchased that day. The red was left over from a previous purchase. I supposed there is an outside chance I had some pretty good used fluid that I had put back in the bottle (red tint), but I dont think so... (just not the type of thing I would do). The red stuff I had mail ordered from a sponsor here. Now wondering if I mixed used with new. |

Not sure I can determine part number. The containers are the same. But the brown has a little sticker with some numbers (I thought maybe dealer part number), will post it later
Maybe the question is, what color should it be? |

Cub cadet brand, 'hydrostatic transmission fluid'. Containers the same. One gal purchased from sponsor on this site. The other purchased from local dealer.
(Unless as previously noted, I got some of my own used fluid mixed into the one container). |

I was concerned you may have gotten some of the synthetic stuff that is out there for the new models.

I just did a drain and fill/filter on the 2072 the other day. I just wanted to get the ISO and blue dye out the PO had put in. I had 5 qts of hytran that I put in and topped off with motor oil. This cocktail will be in until I install a 3point and do a Sam Mac service to the rear. I noticed globs of moisture in the previously opened and the factory sealed gallon that I opened. I got this fluid with the purchase of another tractor. This will be the last time hytran ever goes in one of my machines!
To answer the fluid color question, it was reddish brown but not red like atf tho. I really only saw the red when it was in the white container. Now its blue ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
