Default M18 Governor Pinning
I have an 1872 and my father has an 1862. Both tractors have the Kohler M18 engines in them and I do not believe either of them have had the govs pinned in them. Can I pin the governor in each of the tractors without removing the engine?

I know you'll have to remove the air duct from the pto side of the engine. The governor shaft is next to the oil fill tube.

Yes, you can.

I'm not sure I'd worry about it. It's easy to see. Just make a quick glance at it when you check the oil to make sure it isn't working out. I've got an M18 with nearly 1000 hrs on it.... it's never moved. But, it's pretty easy to do just for piece of mind if your worried about it.

If I remember right, that Kohler service bulletin to pin the governor was for engines built in a specific time frame, wasn't it? As old as these engines are now, I'd think if the governor hadn't worked out by now, it wasn't going anywhere?

Anyone have a link to the service bulletin? I can't seem to find it.

I assume that this can also happen on the Mag 20's?

Just make sure you use a long enough pin to be able grab it to remove it in the event you need to do so!
