Default Getting old is a drag

Set the valves 3 times on my Kohler last week. It kept barking back thru the carb, running rough. After the second time setting them resulted in it still barking, I sat and wondered. I've set valves on everything from solid lift racing engines to Allis-Chalmers WD45's. Popped open another barley pop, scratched my head and happened to look down at my feeler gauge, saw this word faintly laser etched on the outside-METRIC. I thought i only had feelers marked with both English and Metric, but here was this metric only gauge, probably got it when I was messing with the kids' wheeler...no MM on the blade, just marked .008...

Yep, .008 MM is too little clearance. Must be time for stronger bi-focals.

I feel your pain. I just had to swallow my pride and get reading glasses. I can no longer stretch my arm far enough to get schematics to come into focus.

Not sure you would even have a metric feeler gauge marked .008, Maybe .08.

.08mm is about .003", thinner than your average sheet of paper.

I work at a machine shop and we do have some .0003 shim, which is about .008mm. That stuff almost rips just touching it.

I feel your pain on the not seeing thing...made way to many wrong measurements and the like cause of not being able to see. Ended up having an operation on my left eye which after about a year caused a cataract - replacement lens all was good so I thought...it is more out of focus now that ever before. Reading glasses are the bomb til ya forget ya have them on and go to take off walking WOW!!!!!

Steve I just knew I'd get picked up for being drunk in a store when I first got these bi-focals-the floor was sooo close!!! I walked like a drunk for weeks. You get used to it. Sbauerz28 it is 0.08, which to me seemed like .008 and of course I thought it was inches.
Now I know why the old local machinist has the Coke bottle glasses...

Getting old may be a drag but it sure beats the alternative!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
