So the 1864 will need some new shoes. Looks to have the tires that came with it in 94.
Seems ags and turfs are priced pretty similar. Ive looked around and it appears they are also similar in price.Through my research, Iv decided that Id love to have set of Tru Powers on the rear and a set of v61's up front. That combination just looks cool!! Sadly this tractor dosnt need to look cool, it needs to serve a purpose. It needs to be a beast of a grass killing machine and it needs to push snow in the winter. My yard is relatively flat with one rolling hill. I do mow one ditch that is fairly steep but its steep enough that I only mow it when its completely dry. I should also mention that in the spring we get lots of rain and I have one small area that holds water and stays relatively soft. Not soft enough for the tractor to leave ruts but soft enough that when I mow it wet, it leaves muddy tracks on the grass. As for pushing snow, my driveway is blacktop and flat with the exception of a very small incline near the street. Its old blacktop that's chipped up and cracked up and I wouldn't hesitate to run chains on it. Looking for opinions as Ill be ordering new tires once I get her running good. If ags are suggestion, Im going with the combo above. If turfs are suggestion, please give me suggestions. Ive aways purchased the cheap Carlisle turfs at WalMart which are junk in my opinion. Thoughts??? |

Since you have a flat lawn and also need to plow snow I'd use turf's on the rear because they work better with chains for snow plowing. This is a link to tire dealers. Miller seems to be very popular with our members.

I have found when pushing a pile of snow with the blade at an angle, the lawn tires on the front slide sideways easily.
So I have a pair of V61's that are going on it, and hope they will help hold the line a bit better. |

The v61s should work good on the front for both application. As Sam said I'd go with turfs in the rear as ags may tear up the yard where its soft and I also prefer chains on turf tires as they apply pressure to the chain more evenly.

Thanks for the replies guys. Anyone have a recommendation for the rear turfs? Like I said, Ive used the cheap Carlisle turfs that Walmart sells and I don't care for them. Always bought them because they were cheaper. I have no problem paying more for better quality though.

I agree with the others. My 1864 still has the original tires on it. Shortly after I bought it I loaded the rear ones with washer fluid. It made a huge difference, I never spun a tire when mowing again. Since then I did add one set of 26# IH weights, mostly for looks, but they do help.

The Turf Masters don't look bad. The ones Ive used and don't care for are called Turf Saver.

I have TurfMasters on my 1450, no traction issues and they don't tear up the lawn, and my lawn is on an incline. Should have no problem on flat.

I prefer turf tires, period. The AG's seem to ride too rough and tear up the grass. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
