Default New to OCC with 1810

Got some issues with my 1810 and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. It's a late 80s model and I'm having issues with the hydrostatic. It sat for a few years and when I went to use it it moved like 5 feet then stopped. The motor continued to run but no movement when pushing lever forward or reverse. The oil level was low and I filled it to the top and then went to use it again and same thing. I tried leaving it in gear to work any air out and still nothing. Any ideas?

Welcome to OCC.

My first thoughts are, to change the Hydro Fluid and Filter. I am thinking some junk got into the Filter and causing a restriction.

Good idea, how much oil does it take. The TSC in town sells cub cadet hydro oil for 15 bucks a qt. Any other alternative I can use in case that's not it. They didn't have any filters not even sure what will work.

Drain plug right on the bottom?

Oh and Thank you. This use to be my dads tractor so it's staying with me for as long as I can keep it. Using it primarily for plowing snow and pulling small trailer around yard.

Yes, to the full line. I didn't know how to treat it, like if it was a transmission and check it running, but either way it never went above the line.

It will move a few feet when first starting but then stop. Does that after it sits, but will eventually do nothing. Lots of little bubbles in oil after this issue too. I will drain oil and replace filter.

That fluid is fine. Holds about 8QTS. Yes, there is a drain plug on the front left side of the rear housing. You may want to go ahead and pull the rear cover off of it though. They are pretty prone to getting paraffin buildup in the trans.

Filter part numbers are:
Cub Cadet: 923-3014
Wix: 51410
Napa: 1410

Don't start an oil debate!

Tractor hydraulic/transmission fluid. TSC sells that too.

Yes, Hy-Tran (the CC stuff) is expensive.

Those oil debates are with everything, I just want to put something in there temp until I know if the original oil and filter is clogged. I'd hate to drop 100+ on oil then have to poor it right back out.

I pulled the rear cover, drain plug, and filter off. Found some slush like crap in there. Oil was low before but not that low when I see where the dip stick sits.

2 things. Can I spray carb or brake cleaner in there to remove any gunk, and can I make a gasket with some liquid gasket crap or do I need to find a new one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
