Default 1864

Hey everyone. I'm looking into a 1864 for sale. Comes with 54" deck and the tractor has 750 hours. I can maybe get it for $1,000. I've did quite a bit of research and found these tractors were one of the best built except for certain things (plastics and wiring). Any thing else I should look into. I have not looked at it yet but the pictures I saw seem descent. Thanks

Take a 9/16" wrench with you and check the bolts that hold the rear end in the tractor.

So if the bolts happen to be loose does that mean that something was damaged. Also can I put my qa-42 on there for now until I find the right 2 stage for it. Thanks

The QA42A will not work on an 1864 as it has the larger PTO up front.

I do have the smaller wider pulley on mine that will accept a 1/2 " or 5/8" belt.

PTO pulley is the wrong diameter, not belt size.

You could probably adapt the thrower to work..... but it's not "bolt on and go".

Maybe, maybe not, you'll have to check it over.

I have an 1864, mow with it all summer, love the machine. These have a very tight turning radius plus power steering that makes them great to mow with in places where you are mowing around trees, etc. Very rugged machine, Command 18 HP is an excellent engine with a long life.

If in good shape, and deck in good shape, $1,000 is still an excellent price for these tractors. All depends on how well they are maintained, and you should be able to see the answer to that when you take a look.

Just out of curiosity where's the best place you guys have found to get any parts on these 1864s. I've seen a few places and prices vary. Can I go to my nearest ag dealer that sells cub and get parts through them. Just looking into the future in case I get this cub. Any input appreciated. thanks again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
