Default Hydraulic Tiller??

I'd like to adapt a tiller to my 982. I see that JD, CC, and MTD have 30" hydraulic tillers, that seem like they would be relatively easy to adapt. Basically I would need to mount the pump and get a belt off the front pto to it. Then adapt the tiller to a sleeve hitch or Cat 0 3 pt, of which the latter would be my first choice. My question is, would it make more sense to adapt the pump to the front of the tractor, below the PTO, and then run long hydraulic lines back to the tiller, or would it make more sense to mount the pump to the rear end (similar to a right angle tiller setup) and have a long belt running from the PTO thru the mule to the pump? Or is there something I'm missing that will keep this from working at all?

Here's a pic of an MTD.

Is the pump a pulley driven pump? not all will tolerate a side force.

What will you use for a reservoir?

Will you have quick connects for all hoses? including supply/suction line?

What kind of lift?

What for a spool?

What for a relief valve?

Let me leave you with this Toyman....

I think you were on the right track before....the only thing you'd have odd at the end of the day is a rear cover plate and a really long belt...all else could just be sold or traded.

I really would use 3/8 to 1/2 plate and make a replacement cover that would drop your lower mount down on the tiller box. Really the cheapest and easiest thing to do.

All this and at the same time and over time I'd be looking for the correct cat0 and rear pto....maybe $1k and the tiller....I paid $1k for mine.

On the hydraulic....just my opinion....running around in circles and beating dead horses.....some things just ain't worth it.

- Pulley driven pump - yes. It is set up to run off front PTO.
- Reservoir is integrated within the tiller
- I believe it is setup for quick connects at the pump & tiller for suppy & suction.
- 3 point from Extreme
- Existing hydraulics on tractor for lift, included hydraulic pump for tiller.
- Relief valve is built into the system. It's an existing and engineered system, (ie: I'm not building) the only necessity would be to fabricate mounts for the the tiller to 3 point and the tiller pump to front PTO.

JD and MTD both make them, they are reversible, seem to well liked, and powerful.

I'm just considering my options. I did miss out on a 2A tiller that seemed to be pretty complete and priced well, and then I saw these hydraulic tillers. I do like the idea of having hydraulic hoses as opposed to a $100 belt. I'm keeping my eyes and options open!

You'll also need to mount the hydraulic tiller off to one side so it sticks out past the wheels because it's so narrow compared to the tractor.

Correct with the 30", there are also 42" units out there, which would need less offset.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
