Just making some final adjustments on the 1864 and I have one I cant figure out. When the brake is set, the hydro whines. If I release the brake and bump the hydro lever forward just a fuzz, it goes to the neutral position and stops whining. I have the fender pan off now and Id like to get this corrected before I put it back together. I know when you press the brake there is a mechanism that sends the hydro to neutral. I assume that's what I need t adjust but I don't know what to do with it and I cant seem to find it in the manual. Probably because I don't know what the adjustment is called.

Found a service bulletin on a cam pivot adjustment. Is that what I need?

That was it. No more whine. Thanks!
I think the PO never did anything but put gas in this thing. Everything that can be adjusted has needed adjustment. Manual says the toe on the front tires should be about 1/8". Im reading about 1". Thats all I have left to adjust and she'll be a grass killing beast!

You know what, that is really frustrating. I don't know whether the PDF files are missing info, or if the original manuals are. It is called "Cam bracket adjustment" and I had to go all the way back to the QL/wideframe service manual to find it. The '82 series PDF didn't have it and neither did the next series. I gave up looking before I went to the SM for the 1864. If the video doesn't help you, you can use the old QL book. The procedure is the same for all the hydro tractors, no matter how new or old.

Thanks Jonathan. The video helped me and its all fixed now.
After I got frustrated and posted my question, I actually found it in the manual Sam sent me but its not in the adjustments section, its all the way in the back as a service bulletin to cure slow reverse speeds.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
