well for those who read my post about the K321 I rebuilt.
I Had troubles when turning engine over at One spot in the revolution. well to the advise of a couple of Guys I pulled the motor, then Pan, and then the Head. What was wrong is the bottom oil ring must have slipped out of the ring compressor and it bent upwards and created some damage to the cylinder. Not bad. but none the less. freekin ..... !!!!! well I guess it has been too long since I have rebuilt a motor. that was a rookie move on my part. Everything else is ok. I will check clearances of Rod cap when I get a new set of rings and a couple of gaskets. I think I will rebuild the steering box while I so conveniently have motor out of the way. so? the scenario, when in doubt pull balancing gears out? they have a little wobble but are way better than they were originally. he reused one bearing and replaced one bearing. the top appears to move {wobble) just a tad. bottom is fairly tight . wish I would have found this site a bit sooner in the game. there is a lot of different and conflicting info out there for sure. anyway thanks for the input. I went back to take a new fresh look at those gears. "after", I read some more posts , out they come..
I read 3 different post about how they make a rattling sound. and pretty much everyone takes em out. Kirk engines will balance the crank if I want to fork out 150 bones plus shipping both ways,, Not for now anyway. I need it running soon to put the cub to work pushing brush and pulling trees down. I will read up on how to do the rest of the fixes. steering , Hydro and anything else on the learning curve I can find. I wish I knew the local Cub bunch around here. They have a following and every so many years show up the Berthuson Steam and Tractor show. at Lynden WA. 1st weekend in Aug I believe. too late for me now. But lots of info on line. Thanks, LB |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
