Default rear lift on an original question

I finally started putting the rear lift and spring assist on my CCO today and I can't get the seat spring far enough a head to get the spring assist to bolt on. Is this common or is my seat spring wrong? It looks just like the one in the parts book, but the lower end of it seems to be too long. Has anyone else run into this? Can you cut off the lower end to make it move far enough a head to bolt on the spring assist? Thanks for your help in advance.

Duncan: I've got two Originals, both with the IH 3-point lift, and haven't had to cut off anything yet. If the seat and seat spring are properly installed, you will not have to cut anything off. The bottom end of the seat spring will slide back and forth if the bolts are loosened. Wuz I you, I'd fix the seat mounting.

Having said that, the Spring Assist bracket does get right close to the curve of the seat spring but doesn't quite touch on both of mine

Myron, do your OCCs have fenders? Without fenders I could move it far enough, but with the front of the fender pan that fits between the fenders, it has a lip sticking up on the forward edge and that is what the spring is up against. I think I could space the seat spring up if I have to also. I will try and get pictures tomorrow to post and show you what I am talking about. A picture is always worth more than I can type.

I can't quite get a handle on why you can't get it to move far enough out of the way, pic's would be great. Like Myron said they are really close but they do clear...

Duncan10072, If you are putting the SA on pull the seat/spring. If you still have issues with the spring and seat, turn the seat spring 180'. This will position the rear area of the seat slightly higher.

As far as the fender pan, your lift will hit it at the very top of the lift stroke. It's going to be something you'll just have to watch. Also the opening the lift rod goes thru will be another spot to watch on the down stroke, be sure to set the lift limiter so you do not crack the thin area at the rear of the opening..

Yep, both have fenders!! A photo would help, but I betcha your seat spring isn't mounted right or you haven't figured it out yet.

I got the spring assist on it today. I had to move the seat to the forward hole, it has 3 holes in the bottom, it may not be the correct seat, but it works. Wife was gone with the camera today so no pictures, but I do have the lift on and the 8" Brinly hooked up to it. Hopefully will be going to the Climax MI plow day in a couple of weeks. Thanks for everyone's input, it give me the needed info.
