Hello again, just did the spring thing with my 2180, freshly charged battery, oil change, grease everything so I could mow. I had drained the gas tank for the winter too, so fresh gas. Cranked it for about 30 seconds and it fired right up. The problem is, I had moved it so I had room to grease the deck and when I went to turn it off it...didn't. Darn thing won't turn off with the key switch. Figured, hell, just get off it, the seat safety switch will kill it. Nope. Freak out mode hit so I thought I'd unhook the battery. nope. Unhook ignition switch? Naw. Finally just choked it too death, which worked.
I went ahead and did my thing, mowed for about an hour and a half with a break in between, same thing. I even let it sit and get cold, started it and mowed for about .5 and still gotta choke it to kill it. This thing was fine last fall, and all of the key switch functions work, headlights and such. Any ideas? I'm not immune to working on my own stuff (have I got a jeep cv axle story to tell you) but I kind of need to be pointed in the right direction. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you. ps: I did search for this issue, didn't pull anything up. |

Did you ever resolve this issue? My guess is you have a problem in the kill circuit for the mags. Easy way to test if the problem is in the tractor wiring is to ground it at the connection at the engine in this pic. If it shuts off the problem is in the tractor wiring or switch, if it continues to run the problem is behind the blower housing.

Thanks for the info, how do I ground the kill wire? Jump it to the frame?

Frame, engine block or neg terminal on the battery

Funny story, as I was preparing to carry out this little test, mower started and running, got off it and opened the hood, took off the side panel. Located the wire in question and found...it wasn't connected.
![]() Thanks for the advice, I wouldn't even know where to look without your help. Next question, my fuel pump seems to weep a little, around what looks like a vent hole.Is that normal? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
