2084 newbie with PTO problems
First of all, I'm impressed with this forum! I purchased a 2084 60" deck with 504 hours. It runs great, but I was mowing today and the PTO just stopped working. There is a single wire going to the PTO. I checked it and have power to this plug in. Is it possible it would just quite working. If the PTO is toast where would be the best place to get one and what kind of money am I looking at. I love this tractor and this is the first problem I've had with it. Thanks for any help you guys can send my way.

Do you have 12 volts on the plug to ground when the switch is pulled? You will need to plug one lead(of your meter) into the wire that feeds the clutch and the other needs to be grounded, sit in the seat, start the tractor and engage the pto. If you don't have 12 volts there then you need to see why not and if you do you need to ohm out the pto to see if it is any good.

I tested the plug with a test light, grounded, someone in the seat, tractor running, and switch engaged. Test light showed power to the plug. Everything was fine, mowing great and PTO just stopped. could it be the PTO? Would a clearance issue cause it to suddenly stop?

If you have power going to it, it is more than likely the PTO. Or the connection at the plug. OHM the coil and see if it has an open circuit. No the air gap would not have suddenly caused it to disengage.

So I got the clutch off. Seems the coil is toast. 0 resistance and looks like ...toast. where is the best place to purchase a new one. I looked on a few online parts place and they are asking 587 for the whole assembly! I'd like to put a new assembly back on, as the old one doesn't look too healthy. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I had a PTO clutch act like this once.
The charging system wasn't working so the battery was low on charge. You could mow with it a bit and then the PTO would disengage after things warmed up. It would still start the engine but wouldn't run the PTO. Charge the battery and it worked okay. Maybe something to think about.
