The wrecker driver for the towing service we use claims he has found a late sixties to early seventies Cub Cadet tiller that is unused still in the box. It is in Florida at his uncles and he is planning to haul it to TN. He has been told it wad worth $1200 and wanted me to help him sell it. I told him without a part number and pics I can not help him. Any thoughts on what a never out of the box tiller from this area might be worth?
I am taking a wait and see approach to this but it could be interesting to say the least. Stay tuned.

If it's a sleeve hitch tiller, no where near what he wants. If it's a cat 0 tiller, then that's probably about right. If it'a a walk behind... no where near what he wants. |

The only thing he could tell me was it drives off the front pto. I know nothing about narrow frames but didn't they drive off a gear box mounted on the rear? This will probally turn out to be just another "barn find" story but this guy just told me about it after seeing some CC parts I had at work so it was unsolicited.

Well, that rear gearbox is driven off the front PTO. If it is NIB, it might be worth $600. Then again, there are crazy people on e-bay. Offer him $400 for it if it's all there.

In 1978, a 38" tiller MSRP was $597.00. Adjust for inflation and collector value.

If anybody on this site is willing to pay $1200 for a tiller then feel free to contact me, I happen to have some ocean front property in Arizona I'd like to sell.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
