So I have a 102 and sorry for sounding stupid but this isn't really a knowledgable area for me; it doesn't like to go into gear. I will fully press in the clutch but the shifter will not go into any gears. This only happens occasionally but I just want to know what it is and if it is going to get worse.
Thanks and again sorry that sounded stupid!

It's not gonna get any better........

It really depends on what is wrong, there are any number of things it could be.
Not to worry about sounding stupid, I sound that way all the time and it doesn't bother me a bit. Everyone can't know everything about everything, if you've never messed with something like this how would you know??? You don't mention anything about grinding the gears, when it doesn't want to go in gear does it grind? I guess the first real thing to check for is, when this happens, check to see if the drive shaft is still spinning (along with the engine) when you push the pedal down. When this happens, what do you do to get past the problem? I think the answers to these questions can give us a better idea of what we're looking at.

No it doesn't grind, it just won't move into gear. I will check if the driveshaft keeps spinning as soon as I can and get back.
Thanks |

The gears in the transmission are straight cut,,,,,, the teeth must be aligned in order to mesh with each other. try this,,,,,,depress the clutch pedal down far enough to disengage the clutch but not far enough to engage the brake, then wiggle yourself in order to move the tractor forward or backward an inch or so,hopefully this will line up the teeth on the gears and allow them to mesh.

I have this happen to me sometimes with gear drive Cubs and larger tractors too, I usually let the clutch up ever so slightly to get the drive shaft to spin just a little bit, then just before it stops spinning, gently try putting it in the gear I want. Doing this you can "feel" your way into a gear. I must emphasize doing this GENTLY, do not try jamming it into gear or you will damage the gear teeth.

First off I just want to say thanks for the responses to my issue! I took off the cover off of the back and this is what I could see. (Again I am a noob) how would I check the fluid levels in the tranny? FYI the pic is sideways

I do agree that you should familiarize yourself with the manuals, but to keep you from farting around for a week looking for the answer to one question in the manual.
Fill the rear end through the hole (with the plug) in the rear cover, when the fluid runs out, the trans-axle is full. The book also say to use IH-Hy-Tran Fluid or SAE 30 engine oil.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
