Since I got it a month ago, I have thought there something just not right with my 102. Now its official. I had it out yesterday for a few hours actually, doing chores, and other things that a new mower couldnt do (haha). It started off running fine then as I used it, it began to bog down really easily in all gear and barely being able to move up the slightest hill. It was like I had a huge load of rocks or something behind it. I found myself not being able to go into third gear as it bogged and smoked when it was put in to third and even being weak in second. It also started having trouble getting up to RPM when not in gear and just overall wasn't running right. I don't know if it is the engine or the tranny because I was having clutch troubles and had to grind into a few gears unfortunately. When in a higher gear, there is also some moaning going on that sounds like a weak hydrostatic. Do I have something wrong with my cubby or is it just time to go through everything and rebuild?(hope not!) Thanks for reading my lengthly statemend and have a happy memorial day.

More than likely a motor issue, however, have you ever checked or changed the oil in the rear end??? If not, perhaps you should. How's the air filter? Have you done anything to the engine at all? If not, why don't you tune it up and go from there. |

Blue-ish smoke. No, just used hydrostatic noise as a reference. Its a 3-speed. I've only had the tractor for about a month, all I've done is changed the oil, new sparkplug, new air filter, and seafoamed it. I haven't got around to checking the diff level as when I do I will probably go ahead and change it. I really don't know if anything has been done to the engine, I really havent dug into it much.

You mean why won't it run right? Could just be that the motor is worn out. Could be carb problems. Could be ignition problems. Could be poor fuel. Could be a plugged air filter. Could be a tranny with no oil and seizing a bearing brake stuck on blown head gasket sticking valve plugged muffler You really are going to have to do some testing..... Narrow it down to at least a system. Do you need help with that diagnostic? |

I guess I should get to work!! I am not the most mechanical person but I think I should be able to do those things. I know its not the air filter, or fuel. Now that you mention it... ignition problems? now that I think about it, I did have to wiggle the battery connections, etc. before it stopped making noises and actually turned over, but thats just loose screws. hmm... what do you mean do I need help?

Do you need help knowing how to check the ignition system, fuel.....
You basically said your tractor isn't running correctly, "HELP"! So I'm assuming you don't have any idea where to start, or you would have done all that you know first, then asked. So..... do you know where to start testing? If you have done anything already, it would help to know what. How do you know it's not a fuel problem? |

Oh, ok so sorry I get what your saying. Ya so I used the same gas in a different motor and it ran fine. As I said before, I have changed the oil, spark plug, air filter, and added seafoam about 10 gallons of premium gas ago. That is all I've done to it. I am just very unfamilliar with small engines, especially like this one.
As far as knowing how to check these things, I can do it but I have no idea where to start so I will accept your help (:

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
