Sale on Gauges
While putting an order together for Summit Racing I came across a sale on the gauges that Sam Mac used on a couple of his project tractors. The kit with all the mounting hardware is only $12 on sale and since I already has a decent order I got free shipping too. At that price I ordered 3 sets.

What size are the gauges? 2"?

No the size of the gauges is 1 1/2" . There are 3 gauges mounted but they are removable from the panel they are in. The 1 1/2" size makes them an easy fit to the Cub dash tower. See Sam Mac's post on mounting the gauges in his Cyclops tractors. I plan to use the temp gauge to measure the oil temp on a 16hp Vanguard by removing one of the 1/4" drain plugs in the pan and using one of the included adaptors. The oil pressure will need a 1/8" tee if you plan to keep the warning light. The voltmeter just wire to the ignition switch. They also have a 2" set with white faces for the same price.

Sorry to jump in, but maybe you all can help me out seeing your into the gauge thing.
Would like to add a oil temp gauge to my 1872. Would I hook up to the oil warning light sending unit, or is, would this be something different all together? Thanks for any assistance....

Those are mechanical gauges so you would need to put the temp sender into the bottom of the crank case. The Mag18 has a drain plug on the side at the bottom and the front under the PTO but you'll need to make sure the bulb on the sender doesn't come in contact with any rotating parts.

What Sam said. The most accurate reading will be from the oil in the sump. On the Mag18, the side plug would be my choice, it is protected from the drive belts and should be far enough away from getting in the way of any rotating internals (check first). Where that plug is on my 2082 I would have to lift the engine up to get the plug out and install the temperature bulb. On the Vanguard in the 1641 it looks like the plug near the oil filter should work.

just my 2 cents,ditch the olastic tubing for the oil pressure gauge and use copper. plastic tubing melts and cracks when it gets brittle over time which could cause major issues if your not always looking at the gauge

I agree with mudpatrol... get rid of the plastic tubing... a couple of feet of copper tubing is cheap compared to a ruined engine.

I couldn't agree more, I come from a racer mentality and would never use the plastic tubing that normally comes with the gauges. I prefer flexible braided stainless steel lines anytime a gauge line connects to the engine.
